SCOPE

The objective of the Communications Switching Committee is to sponsor publications, conference technical sessions, workshops and topical meetings and discussions in the general area of theory and application of information switching. The topics of interest include theory, architecture, traffic, performance analysis, signalling protocols and networks, call and mobility control, software, services and features, planning, economic factors and management of switching systems and networks for information including voice, data, and video. The cooperation of other IEEE entities is sought to enhance development of principles.

ACTIVITIES

The committee is active through its regular meetings in the major IEEE- Sponsored conferences (ICC and GLOBECOM), subcommittees, and special interest group meetings.

ICC
GLOBECOM

Currently it sponsors (or co-sponsors) a number of workshops on special topics including:

IEEE ATM Workshop
IEEE Intelligent Network Workshop
Workshop on Multi-access, Mobility and Teletraffic (MMT) for Personal Communications

In addition, the Communications Switching Committee co-sponsors or provides liaisons to a number of topical conferences and symposia. Some of these include:

International Switching Symposium (ISS)
International Conference on Universal Personal Communications (ICUPC)
International Teletraffic Congress (ITC)
NOMS (Network Operations and Management Symposium (NOMS)
Broadband Switching Symposium (BSS)
INFOCOM

In the past, we have organized tutorials on several current "hot topics" that include PCS and UPT, signalling for fixed and mobile networks, Intelligent Networks, broadband switching.
